EC Laptops & Communication 6503-118 Avenue NW T5W lG5 e-rnail address:cailing7103@hotmail.com It's an odd looking appendage to the strip mall located on the south side of 118 Avenue that starts half way down the 65 street block. The premise has been home to beauty salons, a sign maker, and an office for a maintenance company. When I saw the new signs I thought I should investigate! ! I entered and found Ling (hui) Cai inside ... I quickly discovered Ling's English is far superior to my Chinese but we did come to an understanding: I would e-mail him so we could alk about his enterprise! Now, please, I am not making this up ... Ling sells, for computers, an English Spanish talking dictionary! The program also includes a Chinese dictionary. He tells me this dictionary is unique in Alberta. (just Alberta?!) Ling also operates a web site (I checked it out...it's for computer buffs ... but have a look anyway!) the address is above. The store is small but Ling does stock and sell laptops, the prices, some in the 2-300 range, seem reasonable. The store is operated Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11.00-5.30 p.m. Another entrepreneur attracted to the neighbourhood ... check it out!

Shop of Signs 6503-118 Avenue NW 780-477-7446 Barry, who hails from Nova Scotia, tells me that besides making all kinds of signs; banners from as low as $35.00, sandwich boards and vehicle decals are also on the menu. Barry's business is located in a former beauty salon, where is he says he can and will produce your advertising I found Barry to be very personable and attentive to my request for a story. In fact he had completed the Barry, who located in the area because he found it quiet and clean, says the community can count on him for support.

JAMR Agencies 6509-118 Avenue NW T5W 1G5 780-246-5433 www. jamragencies.com sales@jamragencies. Com For a store tucked away in the corner in a small string of stores it is hard to believe that prior to the newest tenants, at least 9 other businesses have operated from the premises. These include: Anaiyah's Prenda [coffee shop], Webster's Smoke Shop, Two Men with Pipes, Ted's Sports Repair, Cummings Realty, Teddy Beauty Salon, Fashion Coiffures & Beauty Salon, and Shelley's Beauty Salon. JAMR Agencies is very different from all the other stores because it is a wholesale business whereas the others were all retail. So, why include it: there are several reasons. The Highlands-Bellevue Magazine like to keep atop of happenings in the ‘hood! It’s a new business and frankly we are a nosy bunch! And, of course we would like to welcome Frank and Judy Rieckmann, as new business people, operating in the neighbourhood where they live. There skill at arranging and designing is obvious as you look around the office, display area and kitchen. It is obvious there is a place for everything and everything is in it’s place. The owners, who picked this location because it to but a short walk from where they live, cannot invite you in to view their wares, unless of course you are a contractor. You should however feel free just to ‘pop in’ and say welcome. |
Anaiyah's *Prenda (Tea Boutique and Imports) T5Z 3Z2 780-474-6636 E-mail anaiyahs@telus.net CHANGES FOR THE (MUCH) BETTER ... My last visit to this address was under much different circumstances and did not provide any positive results! You will recall, 'Two men with Pipes'? Now we have something entirely different and I would suggest, unique in our district... Anaiyah's Prenda. As soon as I entered and had closed the door I was graciously welcomed by Tanya Corbin the co-owner and her husband, Hermes, the go-fer as he described himself; but the other co-owner, officially! I found the interior decor both mysterious and welcoming ... mostly dark coloured furniture giving the whole room a warm tone (sorry, my limited decorating vocabulary does not allow me to be too effusive!). Tanya described her boutique as one that offers tea products, men and women's causal clothing and unique Latin imports! The requisite friendly service was obvious. Tanya and Hermes have two young children, they live in north west Edmonton. They have found the neighbourhood quiet and friendly and are excited to open their business in this area. Drop in for a visit and welcome Tanya and Hermes as they embark on this new venture in difficult times! * Spanish for small shop or boutique |

Armstrong Accounting 6513-118 Avenue Armstrong's Accounting Services 6513 - 118 avenue January 200 Phone #: 479-7327 Email: armstrongsaccountinq@shawbiz.ca Owner: Cathy Armstrong Shortly before the issue of our lpoast Newsletter Iwas 'roving' the community and noticed a new business just opening. I entered the store. The people were obviously up to their ears in 'moving in' however, I was treated royally by everyone and was quickly introduced to Cathy who gave me enough information fror a 'did you know' item. I promised to return. I did and here is what I learned Cathy Armstrong operates a business offering these services: Personal Tax Preparation, Small Business monthly bookkeeping, quarterly GST preparation year end financial statements, and corporate tax returns and many other financial servies. services. Her business began as a home based business in June 1991 shortly after her youngest child was born so she could stay home with her young family of four kids – a 13 year old daughter, 8 year old son, 3 year old daughter and a new born baby girl. In 2000 she moved her business from her residence [outgrew the family office] and set up shop at Bavaria Square in Beverly. A fire in September 2006 forced relocation to Highlands. Her business began as a result of putting a small ad llin the Rosslyn Community Newsletter. Prior to that Cathy was employed in Public Practice (Accounting firms), Private Business as well as two not-for-profit organizations. The majority of her business comes from clients referring new clients, Business success can be attributed to her flexibility and personal service in a casual, friendly atmosphere, and a strong belief in her motto of “Quality Work for Reasonable Rates”. Cathy had lived in Beverly Heights for the past the past 15 years, along with her spouse, Murray. Cathy and Murray have four children and two grandchildren. Highlands, Oh yes! She loves the feeling of community, her parish is in the Highlands and so are many of her friends. Since moving here she been made to feel very welcome. A few of the locals have stopped by to meet and qreet her. Cathy has always been active in community affairs - been the treasurer on many not-for-profit Boards (St. Mary Anglican Church, R.J. Scott School Parent Association). She is currently treasurer for the Beverly Towne Community Development Society for the past 6 years. Welcome to the Highlands Cathy, and, I thought your windows paintings were most appropriate and were appreciated!!

780-479-1556 Those of us old enough to remember the advent of front wheel drive will recall the advertisement that showed a happy, happy owner, chasing goats or sheep up a mountain with four wheel drive ... he exclaims happily, "Four wheel drive": .... the next frame shows him checking his tires and saying (unhappily), "Four-wheel drive!!!!!" Computer owners can possible relate, in meaningful way, to this scenario!! My own experience with Big Sky computers has been positive, as it was when L and R Computers was front and centre. Richard Thompson and his business partner, Dave Proctor, occupy the same premises and provide double the service!! Both men are dedicated to providing friendly, courteous service, where no job is too small. Repairs and custom built systems are their forte. A fun line of used equipment is also available. Dave and Richard put their customers' needs first; there is no high pressure selling, and you are treated as an individual deserving the best. Highlands was chosen as a place to do business as, in the close proximity, there are a variety of goods and services available. |

A Barber Who Is ‘Rich’ In Something Money Cannot Buy! Jim’s Barber Shop 6523-118 Avenue T5W IG5 Telephone 780-471-1335 Jim’s Barber Shop has a small “store-front”, and you are likely to miss it unless that is your destination. However, a barber’s shop has been operating at this location since 1963 with first, Tom’s Barber Shop; followed in 1967 by Nick’s, Devlin’s in 1977, Joe’s in 1980 and finally, Jim’s Barber Shop in 1986! Much hair has been ‘cut and swept away’ since the original store opened. Our latest ‘Jim’ is Kamal Safadi, who has been cutting and trimming at this site for the last 18 years. When I spoke to him he said he was not the ‘rich’ barber who we know so much about, however, on learning of his contentment with his job, one gets the impression, ‘here is a happy man’. Kamal merely adds to a number of people who have chosen the Highlands-Bellevue-Virginia Park community to work because of the friendly people. He describes the atmosphere as ‘welcoming’… and, of course, this tells us that it takes more than houses and homes to put a neighbourhood in the top ten… but I wander, again. >Satisfaction is guaranteed: Kamal, who has |

Part of the Pharmacy since 1961 | 2011- Medicine Shoppe |
|
During the latter part of November a notice appeared iln the pharmacy indicating the post office would close in January 2020. The actually is a small disaster for folk without their own transportation. The closest post office outlet would be either the drug store at 38 Street or perhaps there is one to the west. In any event it is a sad move by the post office... |
By the time you read this The Medicine Shoppe (with the Post Office) will be in the premises formerly occupied by Imperial Drugs. After 37years in business Urban has decided to almost retire ... he will be around at the new Medicine Shoppe as a pharmacist... for a while! Laurie Reay and Michelle Van Der Mollen, the new owners will continue to operate their pharmacy at 50 Street and When the planned renovations are complete Highlands-Bellevue Highlights will 'visit and report'! Local Pharmacists Bring New Life To One Of The City's Oldest Pharmacies ... The Medicine Shoppe A move of Imperial greatness ... I could not have said this better and didn't! This was the headline on the press release by the Medicine Shoppe group for the official opening of the Medicine Shoppe at the former Imperial Drugs, 66 Street and 118 Avenue. The release was produced by Holly Roy, Pumpkin PR Inc, and given to this reporter by Karla Horan of the Medicine Shoppe. A goodly crowd of dignitaries, local business persons and customers, past, present and probably future, gathered to witness the official opening of he new store. The ribbon was cut (primarily!) by Michelle Vander Molen, the There were the customary speeches by executives from the Medicine Shoppe Corporation. The high standard set by Urban Bogusz, former owner/manager was mentioned. It was also obvious that Vander Molen and New owners, Laurie Reay and Michelle Vander Molen have undertaken extensive renovations to update and modernize the operation. "It is quite amazing for a pharmacy to have such history," said Laurie. "Many customers The pharmacy will be offering health screenings throughout the year and a number of valuable Medicine Shoppe programs, including the Accu-Pak service for people on three or more medications and home visits if needed. The pharmacy will be an immunization centre and Vander Molen also a Certified Asthma Educator. Reay was pleased to see Mark Stephenson, Apollo Propane and Dale Schmidt, Beverly Boston Pizza drop by, along with Executive Director Cornel Rusnak, from the Beverly Business Association ... Cornel was so impressed with the pharmacy he is claiming that the business is actually located in Beverly. The welcome and necessary Canada Post service will still be available. The same dependable services will soon be available in their entirety. The Neighbour Beat constables, Constables Brian Cross and Jeffrey Eichmann dropped to keep an eye on the proceedings, both are camera shy! Their presence was appreciated, their services not required.
